InBounds Newsletter

InBounds Ministries Winter Newsletter - 2013
Hello Team, it is November and I pulled up the winter newsletter from a year ago… in it I shared a very honest update of the ministry (what to expect in 2013 and the struggles we were facing.) It was encouraging to read because I was able to see that we met and exceeded expectations in ministry! This year I will share in the same way as we prepare to launch into 2014…

The good stuff:
·         Ministry in 2013 has again been phenomenal! We added to the local outreach of MAD Hoops and were introduced to multiple new domestic and foreign fields to minister in…
-          2013 saw us place our first recipient of the Ambassador Scholarship Fund into missions serving in the Dominican Republic. That happened to be my oldest son and he has recently announced his surrender to full-time youth/sports ministry…
-          2013 saw great strides in our local outreach in NC as Jon and Stew (and others) continue to pour into the MAD Hoops outreach in both Mooresville and Huntersville. We saw numbers increase; souls being saved; a church come on board as an affiliate; players “Taking It To The Streets” in service projects; and even saw 3 of our young men get baptized!
-          2013 allowed for me to host / be involved with numerous foreign trips to the Dominican Republic and most recently to Haiti…
-          2013 saw the expansion of our local outreach by moving our main office / home base to Ft Payne Alabama where we have some incredible church support that is helping us keep rolling along…
-          2013 included great ROCK’em Road Trips to Alabama (hosted by Jon and Stew) and again we travelled to Indiana / Missouri. (What incredible training grounds these trips provide!)
-          2013 allowed us to pray with pastors and to pray with pushers; it allowed us to share with the homeless, comfort the brokenhearted, give guidance to the fatherless, and love the saints and the sinners… all through a platform provided by sports!
-          Here is an encouraging email I received from a pastor in North Carolina whose church we helped train to use basketball for ministry: Greetings, I am writing this letter in regards to a ministry that was started at our church about one year ago with Todd Burden and Inbound Ministries. The outreach utilizes basketball as a means to bring in young people to play ball and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of us were a little skeptical at first but about two weeks in we saw Coach Burdens heart and desire with the kids and how well they responded to the way he runs the ministry. God quickly moved on several participants and they gave their lives to Christ. Over this past year we have seen about 60 youth come to the saving knowledge of Christ and bring their friends in to share with them as well. This has allowed us to disciple them to live for God and see their family's become involved as well. This ministry has produced several complete family conversions and active membership in the church. I could go on and on about how God has used this ministry at Bethel but I want you to be able to see for yourself. Coach Burden has been very active in our church and I would not hesitate to put my name in association with his ministry any time. Thanks Coach for all you have done for us and we pray for you daily.    Pastor, Thomas Young (NC)

·         Ministry in 2014 looks to be even greater:
-          We have the addition of the outreach in Northeast Alabama…
-          We have additional volunteer staff coming on board in Indiana and in Florida to institute more local outreach…
-          I have multiple trips planned to the DR and a great opportunity in Slovakia for sports camp…
Bottom line is that the opportunities abound for InBounds!  And we have a volunteer staff that is passionate about the chance to Make A Difference in lives!!!!!!!!

The not-so-good stuff:
·         We are falling well short in contributions of the proposed 2013 budget (barring a big end of the year surge.) Yet God continues to show up and provide other jobs that help support the needs and help support our family! (But I must admit that it is always stressful when it comes time to pay bills… I’ll end the newsletter with why we keep going!)
·         This year also saw one of our board members and one of our biggest prayer warriors go on to be with the Lord… we miss you Papa Joe!
·         And now our board is faced again with decisions of approving the budget and I continually have to evaluate ministry requests with attention to the bank account…
·         Although we are at a time where a raise is desperately needed for my family to meet needs, past giving simply does not warrant it…
·         At this point we are going full steam ahead…  we will trust the Lord to provide those part-time jobs that will help us sustain and to increase our revenue producing activities…
·         I can promise you that we maintain the lowest budget possible… in fact our entire ministry operating budget is less than most family budgets… and the salary we receive keeps us right at the poverty line. (I don’t say that for pity… the Lord has been incredibly gracious to us… I say it to assure you that we strive to be good stewards with the contributions the ministry receives!)

So what is the answer? (I’ll repeat some things I shared last year at this time…)
-          As with most non-profits, this time of year brings a great time to remind people about end-of-the-year giving – what a great time to finish the game strong – often you see teams finish a game with a furious rally to come from behind – bottom line is that we are behind and need to be resolved to keep playing to the buzzer? Would you consider an end-of-the-year gift to InBounds to help us carry on? We need every team member doing his part!
-          We have so many opportunities – would you consider committing to helping us move forward in 2014 by being a monthly supporter? I want to be about the role of minister, not fundraiser – that means we need to see the budget met…
-          And whatever the answer is financially, will you at least pray for InBounds Ministries?

It is now 16 years with InBounds ( 6 as a full-time missionary)! It is because of the faithfulness of God’s people that I have been able to share the glorious Gospel message and teach from the incredible Playbook that God has given us – all while following the Scriptural model to reach out locally, nationally, and internationally…

So why do we keep going on? It is something that I mentioned that is true of our volunteers… PASSION! When the Lord puts a passion in your heart you must keep going on! My life verse is found in Jeremiah, chapter 20 and verse 9…
Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut in in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.”

Gotta keep going so I can “Give ‘em the ROCK!”

Todd “Coach B” Burden
